Gravel Trap: Setup advice from a 1994 computer game
I dug out my copy of Geoff Crammond’s Microprose GP2 computer game the other day and I was amazed by the level of detail in it. It contained real world advice on racing lines, and some of the best explanations of various suspension elements I have ever seen outside of a proper text book. I know many of my generation played the game a hell of a lot back in the day (usually heavily modded), indeed I happen to know that the ‘advanced set-up’ screen in the game was a big influence on the user interface of Danny Nowlan’s ChassisSim software. But what really jumped out was this bluffers guide to driver feedback and what to do about it which is found in the manual!
Now while current gaming technology has moved on hugely since GP2 came out I’m not sure that there has been a mass market game on sale since with the level of depth found in Crammond’s masterpiece, a sad situation.
