Updated 2018 Mazda 6 Is Only Fractionally More Expensive
Mazda has applied three sets of updates to the Mazda 6 in the past two model years. For 2017, it received G-Vectoring Control plus a mid-model-year revision that increased standard equipment, and a 2018 full refresh included new looks and the addition of a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the lineup. Yet pricing for one of our favorite sedans has only ticked up ever so slightly. The base 2018 Mazda 6 with a six-speed manual transmission will start at $22,840.
After Toyota and Honda launched completely new generations of the popular Camry and Accord, Mazda responded by rejuvenating the 6 in the middle of its product cycle. The 2018 model received numerous changes, including a mildly redesigned exterior, a revised interior, more features, and a new top-of-the-line Signature trim level. Mazda also gave the 187-hp naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine a new sibling in the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four sourced from the CX-9 SUV.
The 2018 6 Sport’s $22,840 opening price is only $5 more than the 2017.5 6’s $22,835 starting cost. To equip the Sport with a six-speed automatic transmission, customers will have to pay an additional $1050. With the automatic, another $625 gives Sport buyers the iActivsense package, which includes adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beams and headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
