The Hyundai Tucson Sport returns as a late addition to the compact crossover’s lineup for the 2018 model year. The model joins the SE, SEL, Value, SEL Plus, and Limited trims. 
Unlike the 2017 Tucson Sport, which relied on a 175-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission for motivation, the new Sport trim comes with a larger, 2.4-liter inline-four and a six-speed automatic gearbox. Its formidable 181 horsepower helps the Sport lives up to its name, as it’s the most powerful 2018 Tucson. The 1.6-liter turbo remains available on the Value and Limited models, while a naturally aspirated 164-hp 2.0-liter inline-four powers the SE and SEL.

Unfortunately, the Sport requires more fuel to feed its extra ponies, and the front-wheel-drive model earns EPA ratings of 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, while the all-wheel-drive version sees those figures fall to 21/25 mpg. For comparison, 2.0-liter with front-wheel drive is rated at 23/30 mpg. Adding all-wheel drive lowers those estimates to 21/26. Meanwhile, 1.6-liter turbo model earns ratings of 25/30 with front-wheel drive and 24/28 with all-wheel drive.
