Like Matthew McConaughey’s character, Wooderson, from the film Dazed and Confused, the Toyota Xtreme Corolla is living in the past, man.
Created in conjunction with Jeremy Lookofsky of Cartel Customs, the Xtreme Corolla debuted at the 2016 SEMA show in Las Vegas. To our eyes, though, the custom Corolla looks like something from the 2006 SEMA show?an era when Xzibit was still pimping rides on behalf of MTV.
Although some of the Xtreme Corolla’s design details strike us as more tacky than tasteful, we have to admit the transition from a four-door sedan to a two-door coupe?and one sans B-pillar?is impressive. Likewise, the concept’s big Wilwood brakes, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and six-speed manual transmission take us back to the days of Sport Compact Car. Nevertheless, we’d ditch the red-tinted headlights, odd rear wing, and hood scoop.
Inside, a mass of JBL stereo equipment takes up the area that previously housed the back seat, while an attractive set of thin, bolstered Sparco front buckets hold the driver and passenger in place.
