In 2017 Welter Racing plans to make its return to Le Mans with a highly unconventional design. It will run as the ‘Garage 56′ entry in the 24 hours after initial tests in late 2016 or early 2017. Simply called the WR Biomethane the car is built around an innovative three cylinder 1600cc turbocharged engine designed to run on recycled human waste and the tiny French team has already built the first chassis for the project.

The engine of the car is a bespoke WR unit designed by former Peugeot Sport staff. It has a relatively high compression ratio and bespoke injectors. A Champ Car derived gearbox is used.

Because of the nature of the fuel it has to be stored in a cyrogenic tank mounted at the rear of the monocoque. The recess for the tank can be seen above.
The monocoque has yet to undergo crash tests but has been constructed to a high standard by CARL Composites which has conducted many projects for both Peugeot and Citroen Sport.

Crash tests will be carried out at the UTAC test facility near Paris in the near future.

AERODYNAMICS

The WR Bio Methane has highly unconventional aerodynamics which features a number of active elements. A first look at the cars aero concept was revealed on the Welter Racing website just before Le Mans last year.
