As the end of Sergio Marchionne?s tenure at the helms of FCA and Ferrari hurtles toward its conclusion, the besweatered Italian-Canadian executive has proclaimed that the house that Enzo Ferrari built on the back of V-12 engines designed by Gioacchino Colombo and Aurelio Lampredi will take its first stab at an entirely electric supercar. Said supercar most likely will not resemble the defaced California Spyder pictured above.
Speaking to Bloomberg this week at the Detroit auto show, Marchionne said, ?If there is an electric supercar to be built, then Ferrari will be the first.? Which is perhaps a mite disingenuous, given the efforts of companies like Venturi and, more recently, Rimac. Then, of course, there?s Elon Musk?s revived Tesla Roadster. Musk claims the new car will do 250 mph and go 620 miles on a charge and will supposedly be available in 2020. Which means that either Marchionne is a skeptic about Tesla?s famously optimistic timelines and thus will have a vehicle ready in 2022 or that, in a fit of industrious engineering, the battery-powered prancing horse could arrive as soon as next year.
