Vans tend to evolve more slowly than any other type of automobile, but with the recent influx of new van models large and small now vying to haul America?s deliverables, the evolution of the van has accelerated. Case in point: One year after Ford introduced its impressive full-size Transit van for 2015, it gave the model a slew of upgrades for 2016. Now comes the 2017 Transit with yet more enhancements.
Most notable for the 2017 Transit is a new, low-rise center console that is supposed to allow easier walk-through access to the rear. Climbing aboard also should be easier for short drivers with available power running boards. All 2017 Transits come standard with LED interior lighting, while upfitters will appreciate the high-capacity upfitter switches that are supported by dual heavy-duty batteries. The base Transit audio system now has four speakers, including a tweeter and woofer, and all models can be ordered with heated 10-way seats clad in cloth or leather. The smaller Transit Connect wasn?t left out, either. It adds high-spec XLT and Titanium trim packages to the range, the latter coming standard with Ford?s SYNC3 infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Both get reverse sensors, automatic headlamps, roof rails, and a six-say power driver?s seat.
