The cars you won’t see at Le Mans in 2016
At the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours 60 cars will contest the race (assuming the all surprise free practice, qualifying and the warm up), matching the record for the most ever. However there are a number of cars which could reasonably be expected to be entered for the race which are notable by their absence. Here we take a look at some of them.
1. GREEN GT H2
Whatever became of the proposed hydrogen fuelled car meant to run in Garage 56 back in 2013" The car never raced and for some time seemed to vanish. The hydrogen fuel cell Green GT H2 LMP featured an all new chassis from Welter Racing and an innovative power train that could be described as a power station on wheels but it proved difficult to run.
The car was shown off at Le Mans in 2012 in near complete form and it was meant to run demonstration laps at that years Silverstone 1000km. It didn’t turn up. Indeed it only ran for the first time in 2013 and not in public. Many in the paddock were concerned that the car was dangerous with its exposed hydrogen tanks, but the team claimed that the car was perfectly safe.
