Subaru’s XV Crosstrek, a slightly lifted and otherwise not-that-different variant of the Impreza hatchback, has been a surprise hit for the brand. Perhaps because the affordably priced neo-crossover has been so popular, Subaru doesn’t feel it has to try terribly hard with the new XV Crosstrek Special Edition. Besides some additional equipment, mostly what’s different about the SE is that it’s red.
The Special Edition is based on the mid-level Premium trim, which already comes with Subaru’s All-Weather Package (heated seats and mirrors and a windshield-wiper de-icer), a six-speaker stereo, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift handle, power windows and locks, air conditioning, a backup camera, 6.2-inch Starlink multimedia system, Bluetooth, and of course, all-wheel drive. To that list, the Special Edition adds the optional blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert (which also includes Lane Change Assist), keyless ignition, a sunroof, and a CVT. The Special Edition comes exclusively in Pure Red, a color that’s also offered on the WRX and BRZ but different from the Venetian Red available on other Crosstreks. It further includes red interior accents and red accent lighting for the footwells and center console.
