Lexus RX buyers have been clamoring for an extra row of seating for years now, and Lexus is finally placating them with the new seven-seat RX L. But apparently those interested in Lexus’s biggest SUV, the LX570, have been asking for just the opposite. So Lexus has removed the LX’s third row of seats to create a new five-seat version of this Toyota Land Cruiser?based behemoth that begets more cargo space and a lower base price.
The change really is as simple as removing the LX570’s third-row bench and its accompanying hardware. The two-row LX now has 51 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, six cubes more than the three-row model offers with its rearmost seats folded up against the body sides. Powered by a 383-hp, 5.7-liter V-8 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission, the two-row LX is mechanically identical to every other LX570.

Starting at $86,175, the two-row 2018 LX570 undercuts its three-row sibling by a significant $5000. That’s only $1215 more than the closely related 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser, which comes only with three rows of seats. The two-row Lexus will be offered as a mono-spec model with no options and the same standard features as the three-row model, including leather seats, four-zone automatic climate control, a power tailgate, and a sunroof.
