Stops to the gas station are what they are. They add time to trips, they can sometimes make clothes smell weird (or good, if you’re like us), and oh, yeah, you spend money. Jaguar Land Rover, in conjunction with Shell gasoline, is taking a crack at streamlining the fill-up process with an in-car Shell gasoline app that allows consumers to pay for fuel right from their cars via Apple Pay and PayPal.
The new app arrives as part of Jaguar?s updates for the 2018 model year of the F-Pace, XE, and XF, meaning that for now those are the three vehicles that will introduce the feature. Eventually, the app will spread to every Jaguar Land Rover model.  To marry Jaguar’s infotainment screen to a pump, the Shell app uses geolocation technology and cloud-based prepayment checks to handle transactions. The driver can search for the closest station, specify the number of the pump to be used, choose PayPal or Apple Pay (Android Pay is coming later this year), enter a PIN, specify how much fuel is needed, and the pump will be ready for use. Once completed, the transaction information will appear on the in-dash screen, and a receipt will be sent by email.
For people who pay in person, inside the gas station (as you would when paying cash, for example), the benefits of Jaguar’s Shell setup are pretty clear.
