Not Quite a Denali: GMC Yukon SLT Premium Edition Ladles On the Chrome
GMC has decided that heaping portions of chrome should no longer be exclusive to its top Denali trim levels. A new Premium Edition model for the Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs is essentially an appearance package that brings some more shiny bits down to the mid-level SLT trim.
The biggest difference is a chrome grille with horizontal slats that is exclusive to this special-edition model. It’s decidedly shinier and more imposing than the standard SLT’s simpler grille, and it?s a bit more tough-looking than the Yukon Denali?s honeycomb-mesh chrome grille. Also on the menu are chrome body-side moldings, a polished exhaust tip, and 22-inch chrome wheels with a design that?s exclusive to the Premium Edition (a few different 22-inch wheel options are optional for the Yukon SLT, costing between $2900 and $2995).
Buyers of this SLT Premium Edition will miss out on the Denali?s interior upgrades and badge prestige, as well as its standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic. The SLT Premium Edition instead is powered by a 5.3-liter V-8 with a six-speed automatic, which at least does get slightly better fuel economy, at up to 16/23 mpg city/highway compared with up to 15/21 mpg for the Denali. Look for four-wheel drive to be a $3000 option, as it is on the Yukon SLT.
