New Toyota Tundra TRD Sport Is for When You’re Not Quite Ready to Go Pro
Toyota trucks and SUVs have a long and well-deserved reputation for off-road ruggedness, and those wearing the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) insignia are the toughest in the lineup. Aware of the allure of those three magic letters, Toyota is elbowing another model into the TRD club, even if it’s a lesser member. The 2018 Tundra TRD Sport is a milder version of the factory-lifted, aggressively damped full-size Tundra TRD Pro that has been kicking up sand since the 2015 model year. It makes its debut at the Chicago auto show.
Available on rear- and four-wheel-drive Tundra CrewMax and Double Cab models, the Tundra TRD Sport is aimed at individuals and families who desire an ?extra dose? of performance and styling, Toyota said. To achieve this, the TRD Sport package brings a set TRD-tuned Bilstein dampers, TRD front and rear anti-roll bars, and a host of cosmetic upgrades. Motivation comes from Toyota?s naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V-8, which provides 381 horsepower.
Exterior finishes for the TRD Sport include Blazing Blue Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, Magnetic Gray, Midnight Black Pearl, and Super White. The TRD Sport package adds color-keyed mirrors, bumpers, and hood scoop; 20-inch silver aluminum-alloy wheels with black accents; LED headlamps with black bezels; a mesh grille with body-color surround; and the all-important TRD bedside graphics. Inside features include TRD Sport floor mats and shift knob.
