We?re mildly (okay, completely) obsessed with the upcoming mid-engined C8 Chevrolet Corvette, so we were pleased to see this new set of spy photos, grainy though they may be, which we could parse for details we didn?t know before.
The photos show a prototype C8 in its actual body, and we now have a good look at the car’s profile. While the front end is covered in blocky camouflage that effectively masks its contours, the doors are covered in only a squiggle-pattern wrap. What camo covers the rear of the car appears to be pulled relatively taut over the body panels, revealing its overall wedge shape. The mid-engine proportions are clearly visible here as well, and any questions as to whether the car would feature a mid-mounted powerplant should well and truly be put to rest.
The rear view shows a small rear window and the Corvette’s signature quad taillamps, including the amber turn signals. Also seen are the conventional forward-hinged doors with frameless windows.
The mid-engined Vette is expected to make its debut at the 2018 Detroit auto show in January and go on sale later that year as a 2019 model. A small-block V-8 engine pumping out 450 to 500 horsepower will sit behind the driver, and we’ve recently confirmed that shifting duties will be handled by a new, Tremec-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
