Although we were disappointed to discover than the Mercedes Generation EQ at the Paris Auto Show was a concept car rather than a market-ready new entry, we?ve been assured by Daimler design boss Gorden Wagener that it is, indeed, close to showroom reality?and that it will be the first in a rapidly launched series of EQ models.

Wagener said that ?90 percent? of the show car will make the transition to the production version, which we’ll be seeing ?sooner rather than later.? The front end that combines headlamps and grille (which is illuminated from behind) will become the corporate face for the EQ sub-brand, and the light bar across the rear of the car will be another signature element.
?It?s seamless design,? said Wagener, as he walked journalists around the car. ?There are no unnecessary lines, no bullshit, just interesting graphics. The overall surfacing is completely seamless but also sensual and pure. You see it in our production cars, they are getting cleaner and cleaner. If you like it, take a line off, if you still like it, take another line off. This is very different to what everyone else is doing right now, but I?m convinced others will follow.?
