McLaren’s P1 Still in Production, Only Slightly Smaller Than You Remember
McLaren would like to remind everyone that, even though its $1.5-million P1 hypercar is out of production, P1 ownership is still within reach, thanks to Amalgam models. If you can deal with your P1 in a somewhat more compact package?at 1:8 scale, it’s not tiny, but it’s also not full-sized, either?and have the kind of disposable income familiar to buyers of the actual P1, there still exists a P1 for you.
In fact, both the P1 and the track-only P1 GTR are available. The standard P1 scale model, assembled by Amalgam Fine Model Cars, has been on sale since 2013 and retails for $6775. In photos absent any scale markers, the model car appears to be the real deal, right down to its carbon-fiber bits, fuzzy interior surfaces, and, well, everything. Buyers can personalize their model to suit their tastes?or to match their real-life ride. The newly released GTR variant is the same, only cooler, because it’s the GTR. Pricing for the 1:8-scale GTR isn’t yet available, but figure on it being as dear?if not more so?than the more pedestrian P1.
