McLaren doesn’t quite have the metronomic model planning of companies like Porsche (you can set your watch by the steady rhythm of 911 variant debuts). But Woking is getting close, with the announcement of two track versions of the recently launched Sports Series following the company?s established playbook.
The 570S GT4 will, as its name suggests, be a customer-spec race version of the 570S. It’s eligible to compete under FIA GT4 competition regulations in Europe (pretty much the equivalent level to the Pirelli World Challenge in the U.S.) and a lower rung on the ladder than GT3. It features the same balanced performance levels between different cars designed to encourage close racing with the McLaren joining a growing list of manufacturers to offer cars for it. Apparently the 570S GT4 is being unveiled ahead of its final development, and it will be running in the British GT championship this year, with the customer version offered for GT4 championships from the start of the 2017 season. It is powered by a the company?s familiar 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine and will use a development of the road-going car?s seven-speed gearbox. It will be available for a starting price of £159,900?$226,000 at current exchange rates?although you?ll need to find a chunk more than that to take it racing for a season.
