Kia Wises Up to Autonomous Technology with New Drive Wise Sub-Brand
Since CES has become a bona fide car show, Kia used the occasion to announce the creation of what it?s calling a new sub-brand for its autonomous driving technologies called ?Drive Wise.? This follows Kia’s recent announcement to bring partially autonomous vehicles to market by 2020, and its first fully autonomous car by 2030.
Drive Wise technologies on display at CES are Kia?s new Highway Autonomous Driving with lane-changing and overtaking capabilities and Urban Autonomous Driving that responds to traffic updates. Kia is also showing a Preceding Vehicle Following system that sounds similar to Volvo?s Auto Pilot system; an Emergency Stop System that monitors the driver?s face, pulling over to the side if the driver takes his or her eyes from the road for too long; Traffic Jam Assist, which Kia say maintains a safe distance and moves into appropriate spaces to gain ground; and Autonomous Valet Parking.
Also at CES this year is Kia’s I-Cockpit display, which previews the company’s next-generation human-interface technologies, including gesture control and a fingerprint touchpad that automatically recognizes driver preferences such as radio and climate settings based on his or her fingerprint.
