As the coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep across the globe, the biggest issue countries face is overwhelming their healthcare systems. Despite the fact that around 80% of people with Covid-19 recover without requiring hospital treatment (according to the World Health Organisation), one in six can develop a severe case of the disease. It is these cases, on top of an often already bursting healthcare system paired with a lack of equipment which is leading to unnecessary deaths.  The sudden peak in global demand for personal protective equipment, coronavirus testing kits and ventilators has led to worldwide shortages. In an attempt to combat this, Governments have called out to a wide range of industries for help, and many have returned the call; including motorsport.
How motorsport can help

Whether it?s an F1 car or a drag racer, all racecars are essentially prototypes, made up of thousands of bespoke parts. Only when you get down to bolts, fasteners and wires do you find ?mass-produced? components and in some cases even those have been specially made to suit that particular application. So how can this prototyping industry be of any help to this mass-production problem" Answer: speed and optimisation.
