In Europe, the Honda Civic Si one-ups the Civic. The Civic Type R one-ups the Si. The Type R GT one-ups the Type R. And now, it’s possible to one-up the Type R GT, with the new Type R Black Edition. As a way to celebrate the end of production for the current-generation Civic Type R, Honda gave the 100 final cars a special treatment?but not too special.
The Black Edition features purely aesthetic changes, and even then, there aren’t many. The interior on the Black Edition is black with red accents. The regular Type R?s interior is also red and black, but the Black Edition uses just a little less red, particularly on the seats. The only other change is that the end caps on the rear wing are painted red. That’s it.
The Type R?s powertrain goes untouched. It still has the turbocharged direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder VTEC engine that makes 306 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque at 2500 rpm. It remains front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual transmission.

For those select few alterations, the Type R Black Edition, which is only available overseas, will cost the equivalent of $39,290. As for Americans, we have to await the new Type R, due out later this year.
