Honda is adding 772,000 more cars to the Takata airbag recalls as the troubled Japanese supplier announced new repair schedules for several million inflators currently under recall.
No new models or model years are part of the latest Honda recall in the U.S., which specifically covers front-passenger airbags. A total of 1.29 million Honda and Acura models plus 882 Gold Wing motorcycles are included; many were previously recalled for driver’s-side airbags.
The complete list names the 2005?2006 Acura MDX; 2005?2011 CR-V and Element; 2005?2012 Pilot and Acura RL; 2006?2011 Civic; 2006?2012 Ridgeline; 2007?2012 Fit; 2008?2012 Accord; 2009?2012 Acura TSX; 2010?2012 Crosstour, Insight, and Acura ZDX; 2011?2012 Acura TSX Wagon; and the 2012 FCX Clarity. The 2006?2009 and 2012 Gold Wing motorcycle is also included; the 2012 model Gold Wing had not been previously recalled. Dealers will begin repairs in late February. Under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration guidelines, Takata must prioritize repairs for airbag inflators with the highest risk of rupturing based on age, inflator type, and where owners have registered their affected cars. The latest round of recall repairs, which includes this Honda recall, involves about 5.7 million inflators.
