It?s a bold claim, considering the T.50?s predecessor is none other than the McLaren F1, a vehicle that professional drivers, connoisseurs, and enthusiasts consider to the best-driving supercar ever made ? until now.
Who Is Gordon Murray"
Professor Ian Gordon Murray CBE is a South African-born British designer of Formula 1 racing cars. Prof. Murray is responsible for creating the innovative BT46B F1 car, more popularly known as the Brabham “fan car.” The man was part of the design team that produced the McLaren MP4/4 F1 car, which won 15 of the 16 Grand Prix races during the 1988 F1 season. It was also the same car that gave the legendary Ayrton Senna his first taste of the F1 Driver?s Championship.
Prof. Murray is also the brains behind the McLaren F1, the catalyst of the hypercar era. Produced between 1992 and 1998, the F1 is a car of many firsts: It was the first to have an all carbon-fiber body; the first to have active aero; and the first to have active brake cooling. On March 31st, 1998, the McLaren F1 also became the fastest production car in the world, clocking in at 240.1 mph to surpass the Jaguar XJ220?s top speed of 217 mph.
