As demand for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro increases, General Motors is adding a third shift at Lansing Grand River Assembly. This comes on the heels of GM’s $175 million dollar investment in May 2015 for new tooling with regard to Camaro production.
The addition of a third shift will jump the plant’s workforce to around 2,300 employees, adding more than 500 hourly and salaried jobs.
The new shift is scheduled to begin in the second quarter.
“We just added the Chevrolet Camaro to our vehicle line up and now we get to expand the UAW-GM family, which will bring the plant to full capacity,” said UAW Local 652 President Mike Green.
According to Green, there is much excitement in the air as Lansing Grand River prepares for the expansion. “What a great way to start the new year,” he said.

In addition to the Camaro, the Cadillac CTS and ATS are also assembled at Lansing Grand River. While the Camaro prompted much of the expansion, the latter two vehicles have contributed significantly. The V-series versions of both Cadillac nameplates are produced there as well.
“This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Lansing Grand River produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers,” said Lansing Regional Plant Manager Mike Trevorrow.
