Like the Volvo XC90 before it, the 2018 Volvo XC60 takes a big step forward and up from its predecessor. It underwent a drastic makeover both inside and out, rides on a longer chassis and an improved suspension, and has more safety technology than even the safety-minded Volvo buyer might imagine. And yet, even with these improvements, the luxury crossover’s price actually drops compared to last year’s equivalents, with the new 2018 all-wheel-drive edition starting at $42,495, $1,450 less than the $43,945 2017 model.
The XC60 offers three engine choices and is built in three trim levels for each engine. Initially, all new XC60s have all-wheel drive as standard, and all versions utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission, as well. The T5 comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that makes 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, the T6 has a turbocharged and supercharged inline-four that makes 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 comes with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that blends the turbocharged and supercharged inline-four with an electric motor for a total of 400 horsepower and 472-lb-ft of torque. If that lineup sounds familiar, it’s because it is shared with the XC90.
The T5 starts at $42,495, the T6 starts at $45,895, and the T8 opens at $53,895. Pricing is consistent throughout every engine option, with the mid-level R-Line trim adding $3300 to the base Momentum, and the Inscription adding $500 to R-Line prices. All XC60s c...
