Mercedes-AMG has given its GLE Coupe the jack o’lantern treatment with enough orange accents and pitch-black trim to start a costume party.
The AMG Performance Studio Package on the 2018 GLE43 Coupe does the usual fireworks show that emerges when Stuttgart comes up with a themed special: Highlight the outer wheel rims, lower air dam, and interior stitching in a bright color, and blacken nearly everything else. Following the style of the 2016 CLA Edition: Orange and this year’s SLC RedArt, the Performance Studio Package (called OrangeArt in Europe, where it is also offered on non-AMG GLEs) is dark as hell inside, with black nappa leather and microfiber seats surrounded by an all-black dash, carpets, and roof. Gray stitching on the dash, doors, and seats, aluminum trim, and orange piping on the seats and floor mats are the only parts to catch any light.
Additional black rings around the LED headlights, along with black wheels, mirrors, and door trim show contrast if you spec the Studio in white, silver, or gray (also available: two choices of black). This mood is appropriately serious for the AMG GLE43 Coupe, a monstrous Frankenstein SUV that freaks us out whether parked or hurtling forward on its massive 21-inch rubber. It didn’t need to wear a new costume, really.
