Hyundai got our attention when it introduced the 2018 Elantra GT hatchback with an optional turbo engine and a manual transmission. But if it really wants to win over the hearts of enthusiasts in the United States, it will bring over this new Europe-market i30 wagon, stat. After all, the Elantra GT is essentially the U.S.-market version of the i30 hatchback sold in Europe. The i30 wagon seen here, then, would certainly be a welcome addition to the pool of affordable wagons in the U.S., which currently includes only the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen, the Subaru Outback, and the Mini Cooper Clubman.
From the C pillar forward, the i30 wagon shares its attractive styling with the i30 hatch. The roof, however, extends rearward a bit further on the wagon, presumably making for even more cargo space than the hatchback’s 25 cubic feet. We can also assume that the wagon shares its powertrain lineup with the i30, although full details won?t be available until the car’s official debut next week at the Geneva auto show.
