It hasn?t even been two full weeks, and 2017 has already claimed its first victim. The Chevrolet SS, one of the best modern sleepers on the market, is going the way of the Pontiac G8 after the 2017 model year, as confirmed by General Motors spokeswoman Afaf Farah, who handles global marketing and advertising for the sports sedan.
Ordering for the 415-hp Chevy, which went unchanged for 2017 from 2016, opened up this past September, and it will close at the end of February. After that, Chevrolet will sell off the rest of the stock, which Farah says is limited, and that will be the last of the SS. In 2016, Chevrolet sold 3013 SS cars, according to Automotive News, up slightly from 2895 in 2015. Aside from the car’s participation in NASCAR, there wasn’t much marketing or advertising to get the word out. But sales, which weren’t expected to be high in the first place, are not the reason production is ending.
