The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro is proving to be quite the versatile racing platform. There are already versions for Funny Car drag racing and for NASCAR competition, and now we have official word that Chevy has created the Camaro GT4.R, a racer made for entry into GTS- and GT4-class racing, specifically the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge GS and the Pirelli World Challenge GTS.
Based on the Camaro ZL1, the GT4.R was created with Chevrolet Racing technical partner Pratt & Miller Engineering. Under the hood is a race-tuned 6.2-liter LT1 V-8 small-block, which is mated to a six-speed Xtrac transmission with paddle shifters. The GT4.R also has an Xtrac racing limited-slip differential, two-way adjustable Ohlins Racing coil-over dampers, and adjustable ABS with Brembo six-piston aluminum monoblock calipers up front. Downforce and aerodynamics were improved with a large rear wing and a new front end with a splitter and dive planes.
Fresh off his victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in the Cadillac DPi-V.R, Jeff Gordon stirred some more interest around the Camaro GT4.R by liking Team Chevy’s Facebook post and posting about the car on both Facebook and Twitter with the captions, ?Just found the next race car I want to drive.?
