BMW’s Electric C Evolution Is (Kinda) the i3 of Scooters, Will Come to the U.S.

In addition to its new 3-Series GT and longer-range i3, BMW is showing its new C Evolution electric scooter from its Motorrad cycle division at the 2016 Paris auto show. It?s fair to consider the C Evolution as the i3 of scooters, not only because of its edgy design but also because it borrows the i3?s new long-range battery technology.
There are two version of the scooter thus far announced, both of which feature a 48-peak-hp electric motor, but one offers 15 continuous horsepower and the other 26 continuous horsepower. The lower-powered version offers 62 miles of range and a 75-mph top speed, while the more powerful iteration can go 99 miles on a charge and hit 80 mph. Both also come with a redesigned charging cable that takes up less cargo space and can be outfitted with a newly optional smartphone cradle to, you know, cradle your smartphone.
This is actually the second C Evolution scooter; the first one debuted in 2014 but has not been made widely available around the world, and has never been available to customers in the U.S. According to Roy Oliemuller, BMW Motorcycle communications manager, that will change with the new C Evolution, as the latest model will make its U.S. debut once it has been federalized. Exactly how much power and how much range that one will offer is unknown, but watch for it to appear sometime in 2017 as a 2018 model.
