Back to Basics: Nissan Slashes 2018 GT-R Pricing with New Stripped-Out GT-R Pure

It has been several years since the Nissan GT-R carried a price with fewer than six digits. Now, as Godzilla ages, it’s returning to its roots: For 2018, the GT-R adds a new base model called the GT-R Pure, and its MSRP, at $99,990, makes another appearance in the sub-$100,000 realm (with the mandatory destination fee, the base price is a less advertising-friendly $101,585).
To slash more than $10,000 off the sticker, Nissan stripped several pieces of equipment from the GT-R Premium, which starts at $112,085 for 2018. The GT-R Pure lives up to its name by doing without the Premium car’s Bose audio system, active noise cancellation and active sound enhancement, and Titanium exhaust system. The rest of the dirty bits?including the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V-6 with 565 horsepower and 467 lb-ft of torque, six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive system?remain in place, making us wonder whether the Pure might be a particularly hot performer given the weight it saves by jettisoning those few features.
The other significant change for the 2018 GT-R is the addition of standard Apple CarPlay to its 8.0-inch infotainment screen (Android Auto is not on the menu). Besides the Pure and Premium trims, the lineup still includes the specially tuned GT-R Track Edition, for $130,085, and the range-topping GT-R NISMO, for $177,085, that includes an uprated version of the engine producing 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft.
