So while it’s true that the new European i30 is for the most part a hatchback sibling to the Elantra sedan that’s sold here, there also are some substantial differences. The i30 sits on a 2.0-inch shorter wheelbase, has a different (and classier) cabin architecture, and is powered by a mostly distinct range of engines. However, as with the previous i30, it will form the basis for the next Elantra GT that is sold in the U.S. beginning next spring.
