It’s hard to keep up the anticipation for auto shows when new models always leak out online ahead of time. In the case of the upcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV, the leak is coming from inside the house?specifically, from an official video showing the production line for the Giulia sedan and this upcoming crossover. First spotted by MotoriOnline and preserved by Carscoops (Alfa has since removed the video), the video shows a lightly disguised Stelvio rolling along the factory in Cassino, Italy.
As expected, the Stelvio looks a whole lot like a slightly taller version of the Giulia with a hatchback (see our original artist’s rendering below). Alfa’s distinctive scudetto grille is just visible, and the headlights are similarly shaped to the Giulia’s units. The rounded greenhouse transitions into a relatively sharply raked rear windshield, making the Stelvio somewhat resemble coupeish crossovers like the BMW X4 and the Porsche Macan.
Those are exactly the sorts of competitors that Alfa Romeo has in its sights. The Stelvio will share its underpinnings and engines with the Giulia sedan. That should mean either a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 2.9-liter turbocharged V-6 for a high-performance Quadrifoglio version. All-wheel drive certainly will be on the menu.
