The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan sports fresher, roomier digs with the latest technology, but that’s not enough to rush the current Tig off to the used-car lot. Instead, Volkswagen is extending its life as the Tiguan Limited.
Despite a now decade-old design and tweener dimensions that slot it between subcompact and compact crossovers, the Tiguan saw record U.S. sales in 2015 and again in 2016, when it topped 43,000 cars. Given this unusual upward trajectory for an aging model and the market’s vigorous demand for SUVs, Volkswagen of America will stick with the old Tiguan for the 2018 and 2019 model years.
Hendrik Muth, VW’s senior vice president for product marketing, said the Tiguan Limited will be aimed at more budget-minded buyers and those who don’t want the new Tiguan?s third row and considerably larger footprint. The newly announced six-year/72,000-mile warranty on the 2018 Tiguan and Atlas won’t apply to the Tiguan Limited, however. Pricing hasn’t been announced.
