2017 Toyota 4Runner Boasts New TRD Off-Road Packages

When it first appeared in 1985, the Toyota 4Runner gave customers a chance to experience the great outdoors. The body-on-frame design was conducive for hauling people and cargo while hitting the trails. That history continues with the 2017 Toyota 4Runner, now available in two new grades: TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium.
The new packages for the 4Runner highlight Toyota’s presence in the off-road community. We’ve even had some seat time ourselves with the 4Runner and found it suitable for off-road warriors.

Multi-Terrain Select changes the dynamics of the 4Runner for the best performance no matter the terrain. Wheel slip is adjusted accordingly, while an electronic-locking rear differential and Toyota?s Crawl Control (CRAWL) provide additional traction. Crawl Control maintains a consistent speed while maneuvering over or through difficult environments. The technology shifts the transfer case into low range and monitors engine speed and braking force. This keeps the vehicle moving while the driver steers over obstacles without having to operate the gas or brakes.
