The mid-size Mercedes-AMG GLE43 SUV and its fastback-coupe counterpart exist in the heart of the brand?s utility-vehicle lineup. Lightly massaged by Mercedes? AMG performance sub-brand versus the standard GLE-class models, they boast an exhilarating 362-hp twin-turbo V-6 and a sport-tuned chassis, as well as premium cabin materials, a robust infotainment system, and optional high-tech driver assists. The fastback coupe looks sexy, if a bit awkward, but the interior design in both versions is getting well on in years. The fantastic powertrain also is somewhat countered by the squareback?s stiff-legged handling. While the GLE43 combo is compelling, the two models? well-aged platform puts them somewhat out of sync with some of Benz?s fresher products.
