The Only Rotary-Powered Mercedes in the World
The Mercedes-Benz C111 was a series of vehicles used as experimental test beds to develop new engine technologies in the 1960s and 70s. This version was powered by a four-rotor Wankel engine and is now the only running rotary-engined Mercedes on earth. The C111 was later powered by other engines such as diesels and a twin-turbocharged V-8. Benz loved the rotary?s performance, but couldn?t get it up to the company?s reliability standards, so this car represents an extremely cool dead end in Mercedes-Benz history.
