Road & Track Vol. 24: Black & White
Welcome to Road & Track Vol. 24: Black & White.
There?s nothing black-and-white about black and white. Heroes don?t always wear white, and villains aren?t always in black. The contrast between the two is one of opposites. But together, and with every shade of gray in between, they never tell the whole story.
Automotive culture grew up around black-and- white images. Road & Track?s first issue, dated June 1947, was framed in dull red, but all the photos were grayscale. It wasn?t until the November 1950 issue that a color photo was reproduced, and then only on the cover. The issue on newsstands now is the first to use only black-and-white photos since then.
Black-and-white isn?t a throwback to a simpler time. It?s an invitation to change perspective. It?s a chance to engage the part of the mind that takes leaps of logic and faith to fill in gaps, turning them into art.
Here?s to black-and-white and the brilliant uncertainty it brings with it.
