MotorWeek's Patrick Lucas was way out in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada for the launch of the 2017 Genesis G90.

Taking a page out of the Lexus playbook from nearly 30 years ago, Genesis introduces itself to the world for the first time as a new luxury automobile company. While technically under the Hyundai umbrella, Genesis looks to distance itself from both Hyundai and Kia by offering premium and luxury vehicles rivaling German mainstays like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi, as well as other big players like Lexus and Cadillac.

The G90, which replaces the Hyundai Equus, is their first truly all-new vehicle, powered by an also all-new 3.3 liter twin turbo V6 making 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft. of torque. A 420 horsepower V8 is optional, as is all-wheel drive; rear wheel drive is the standard configuration.
Safety features are a big selling point, according to Genesis, and all available safety systems, like automatic emergency braking, smart blind spot detection, lane keep assist, smart cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert, come standard.

Genesis plans to have six vehicles available by 2021, including crossovers, all keeping in line with the "G" nomenclature. They currently sell the G80, though it's a carry-over of the Hyundai Genesis already available now.
