Volkswagen is opening order books for its Beetle Dune ? a more rugged version of the distinctive model.
First unveiled as a concept at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, the Dune will now be available from showrooms in both coupe and cabriolet variants at prices starting from £21,300.
According to VW the Dune rekindles the spirit of the ?Baja Bug? conversions of the original Beetle. It achieves this with front and rear wheelarch extensions covering 18-inch alloy wheels, bold replacement bumpers, black side strips, a large spoiler and a raised ride height.
The interior gains bespoke contrasting seat stitching, leather trim on the steering wheel and handbrake grip and black trim n the door panels, seats, roof pillars and headlining.
Dune versions are based on the Design trim level, standard equipment in which includes the Composition Media system. This is based around a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth telephone connection, DAB digital radio receiver, dash-mounted single CD player, MDI (Multi Device Interface) via USB connection, SMS messaging functionality and eight speakers. Also standard are a ?Light and Sight? pack comprising an auto dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and ultrasonic parking sensors front and rear.
Dunes can be bought with either the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine of 104bhp or the 2.0-litre TDI diesel producing 147bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on both models while the 1.2 can be supplied with a seven-speed DSG ?box...
