The Piaggio P.180 Avanti aircraft has now traveled one million flight hours altogether. If that amount of time were flown by just one aircraft, it would equate to more than 114 years non-stop. That’s quite the accomplishment considering that the P.180 Avanti first took flight in the fall of 1986. To celebrate the event, Piaggio flew the prototype plane, which is still active in experimental pursuits. Piaggio also hooked this plane up with a special livery that celebrate the event with “One Million Flight Hours” on the sides.

“Reaching one million flight hours is a milestone that, in the history of the company, carries a symbolic value,” commented Vincenzo Nicastro, the Extraordinary Commissioner of Piaggio Aerospace. “Exactly two years ago, in December 2018, when I was appointed, the company seemed to be close to collapsing. Despite a very negative economic scenario, we have instead succeeded in bringing Piaggio Aerospace back to being fully operational, saving thousands of jobs and a more than 100-year-old brand.”
