Peugeot reveals its future cockpit
Peugeot is unveiling the second generation of its i-Cockpit infotainment system, which debuted in the current 308 in 2012.
Described as the brand?s ?vision of tomorrow?s driving environment? the system is said to have improved comfort and safety and ?advanced sensory engagement for drivers and passengers of the next generation of Peugeot models?.
In what is being seen as a Peugeot version of the much-praised Audi Virtual Cockpit, the i-Cockpit centres on a 12.3in high-resolution digital screen placed directly ahead of the driver on the dash.
All critical information is displayed on this screen, reducing the need for the driver to look significantly away from the road.
Alongside it is placed an eight-inch tablet-style touchscreen at the top of the centre console. This screen Peugeot says is more responsive than its predecessor and easier to use. Under the new system features such as 3D navigation will be available on both screens, as well as voice recognition and hands-free device control of such features as automatic reading and replying to text messages. The Apple Car Play, Mirror Link and Android Auto smartphone technology are all compatible with the central screen.
The design of the i-Cockpit has also been updated, with the emphasis on fewer buttons and the use of higher quality materials and fitting. According to Peugeot it is designed to be ?elegant yet practical.?
