All who tried passing through the area of The Standish residences on Tuesday of last week were surely made aware of movie star Matt Damon moving into his new luxury penthouse. Damon reportedly closed down the entire block and had a 14-story crane parked in the street to move in his furniture to the 11th and 12th floors and trees to his rooftop terrace.

Damon purchased the penthouse for $16.5 million in 2018 in what was the priciest Brooklyn apartment sale at the time. The 6,000-square foot unit at the top of the Beaux Arts building known as The Standish still bears the original brick and limestone facade. The Standish, originally the Standish Arms Hotel, was designed by Frank S. Lowe and built in 1903. It was reimagined by DDG and Westbrook Properties and hit the market as limited luxury condominiums in 2016.
The units feature high-end upgrades, including tall ceilings, wide Austrian Oak flooring, Italian Cararra marble countertops, custom cabinetry, Fantini natural brass fixtures and high-efficiency climate control. The residences also offer amenities including concierge and doorman services, a fitness studio and a playroom. The lobby is clad in marble and gold. The Standish is the highest building in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, offering unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline, New York Harbor and the bridges.
