Kia teases its new Niro hybrid SUV
Kia has released first images of the Niro, a car it describes as a HUV ? a Hybrid Utility Vehicle.
When unveiled at Frankfurt in 2013 the Niro was described as Kia’s answer to Nissan’s Juke.
The production car is expected to be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in February 2016 ? a concept version, pictured at right, was revealed at the Frankfurt show in 2013 and dubbed by onlookers as Kia’s answer to the Nissan’s mass-selling Juke.
Details of the Niro are currently scarce but it will be the first model built on Kia?s new eco-car platform, and its small-sized petrol-electric drivetrain is set to produce CO2 emissions of under 90g/km. Kia says that the Niro, which has been styled principally at the brand?s design centres in California, USA and Namyang, Korea, will combine an aerodynamic body shell with subtle sculpturing to its surfaces. It is likely to be somewhat less radical than was the 2013 concept.
