Jordan takes Ford’s first 2016 BTCC win
Andrew Jordan fought his way past Adam Morgan to open the 2016 British Touring Car Championship win account for the Motorbase Ford team at Thruxton.
Jordan was always threatening throughout the race and was able to jump race one winner Morgan’s Mercedes with two laps left, the BMW of Rob Collard also going past to take runner-up spot.
Star of the race, however, was the Halfords Yuasa Honda of Gordon Shedden. Starting from 23rd on the grid after his Civic Type-R was caught up and severely damaged in the crash that stopped race one, he fought his way up through the field to take fourth at the chequered flag.
Soaring tyre temperatures cut the length of race 2.
Before the start organisers made the controversial announcement that both rounds eight and nine of the series would be reduced in length from 16 to 12 laps, due to the unseasonably high temperatures that were blamed for the punctures that had ended round six. From pole position race one winner Morgan’s Wix Racing A-Class made a good start, Jordan’s Pirtek Focus slotting in behind him as Tom Ingram’s Speedworks Toyota Avensis assumed third, only to be penalised for a jumped start and forced to take a drive-through penalty.
Jordan continued to chase Morgan, while just behind the Focus ran the entire West Surrey Racing BMW team, Rob Collard leading Jack Goff and Sam Tordoff, followed by the Proton Persona of Andy Welch, having its most competitive outing for some time.
