Jaguar to go electric racing in Formula E
The growing all-electric FIA Formula E Championship will gain a major boost in 2016 when Jaguar enters a full manufacturer team.
The team will debut in the third Formula E season that starts in the Autumn of 2016,  Jaguar?s return to global motorsport and the brand?s first single-seater programme since the end of its Formula One campaign in 2004.
To produce its electric single seaters Jaguar is adding to a long relationship with Williams Advanced Engineering, a subsidiary of the renowned Williams Grand Prix Engineering Formula One team. The two have worked together several times, most recently on developing the Jaguar C-X75 plug-in hybrid supercar that starred in the latest James Bond film Spectre.
FIA Formula E is regarded as a unique opportunity for the Jaguar Land Rover group to further the development of future EV (electric vehicle) powertrains including motor and battery technology. ?Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover’s future product portfolio?, says JLR group engineering director Nick Rogers, adding; ?The championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions?.
Rogers believes that the next five years will see more changes in the automotive world than in the last three decades; ?The future is about being more connected and more sustainable; electrification and lightweight technologies are becoming more important than ever as urbanisation continues to increase.
