High-tech Megane set for summer launch
Renault has unveiled full details of its all-new Megane family hatch range, that will arrive in UK showrooms in summer 2016.
The car was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and goes on sale in European left-hand drive markets early in the new year.
It is the fifth Renault model to be built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new Common Module Family (CMF) vehicle architecture, following on from the Espace, Kadjar, Talisman saloon and Talisman estate.
Renault says that building on the CMF platform significantly increases efficiencies, flexibility and quality, and provides a cost-effective means of offering technologies from upmarket cars in less expensive models.
The new Megane is longer and wider than its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase and what are now claimed to be the widest front and rear tracks in class, improving both handling and interior space. A more sculpted exterior look features, while the space between the wheels ? available in diameters up to 18 inches ? and bodywork has been reduced by revised suspension geometry. Bespoke lighting signatures feature in the headlamps, which are full LED with auto-dip on upper-spec models.
Inside Renault claims to have reproduced the cockpit-style upmarket cabin of its latest Espace and Talisman models, which are not offered in Britain. Technology features heavily, the centre console and instrument panel containing a multimedia tablet and seven-inch TFT display.
