Euro show season starts in Brussels
The focus of the global motor industry may be in Detroit, writes John Elwin, but the European show season has also kicked off this week, with the 94th Automoto Salon in Brussels, Belgium.
A typically spacious BMW stand features the new M2.
Running between 14th and 24th January, the bi-annual Brussels event may not be in the same league as the major European shows such as Geneva and Frankfurt, but nevertheless has an important place in the calendar.
The ten-day show attracted some 582,000 visitors in 2014 and with 501,066 new cars registered in Belgium last year, theoretically nearly every one of them is a potential customer.
Viewing Renault’s Megane requires a little hillclimbing… Others making a first appearance include a new Toyota Verso, Opel?s diminutive Karl, and the new Megane which Renault managed to park on top of a hill, no mean feat in Belgium!
Concept cars tend to be saved for the Geneva show in March but Peugeot displayed the existing Quartz in dazzling shades of blue, whilst stablemates Citroen is showing its already-seen Cactus M concept, a kind of beach car redolent of the old Fiat Jolly.
And finally – a typical motor show oddity, in this case surrounding Suzuki’s new Baleno.
