Detroit show: Infiniti takes on 4 Series
Infiniti is unveiling the production version of its new Q60 coupe, a car the Japanese brand expects to take on the Audi A5 and BMW 4 Series.
Revealed at the Detroit Motor Show a year after a concept version debuted at the same event, the Q60 replaces Infiniti?s G37.
It is a wider and lower car than its predecessor, with a bolder exterior look created according to Infiniti by a bespoke deep-body stamping process. The shell boast a drag coefficient of 0.28, achieved by a number of measures including front bumper vents to direct air into the engine bay, and on V6-engined variants an Active Grille Shutter, only opening and therefore disturbing the aerodynamics of the bodyshell when highest performance is needed.
Q60 engine options number three, including one of Infiniti?s new VR range, a 3-litre V6 unit with twin turbochargers, dubbed the VR30 and offered in 296 and 396bhp versions. There will also be an entry-level offering, propelled by a 2-litre four cylinder unit of 205bhp. A seven-speed auto transmission is standard, and rear-wheel drive with all-wheel drive an option.
Other features displayed on the Detroit show car include a digital suspension system and a totally revised version of the brand?s adaptive steering. Available drive modes number up to six, depending on model.
Interior highlights include the debut of a new 13-speaker Bose Performance sound system, while the latest version of Infiniti?s InTuition central control infotainment system is also fitted.
