BMW networks at Vegas tech show
BMW is showing a version of its i8 roadster concept at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show laden with future technologies.
The BMW i Vision Future Interaction, unveiled at the Las Vegas event, predicts future possibilities for fully networked cockpits and user interfaces.
The car is controlled by high-resolution displays that change their content to match the situation and can be controlled using gestures, one?s voice or touch. The car debuts the Air Touch system, which recognises movements and allows operation like using a touchscreen, but without actually touching it.
The driver uses a combination of a head-up display, three-dimensional instrument cluster and a 21-inch panorama display. Separate controls are reduced to a minimum with the car having only three drive modes selected through the steering wheel ? Pure Drive (full driver control), Assist (assistance systems intervene actively) and Auto Mode (highly automated operation). Among a host of further BMW technology debuting at the show is the ?Internet of Things? which offers more comprehensive networking, connecting up cars, smart homes and devices such as smartwatches or phones. A cloud system dubbed ?Open Mobility Cloud? allows automatic starting of various processes without the operator asking or activating an app.
