Small User Experience: Lexus Releases First Pic of UX Compact Crossover
The Lexus UX subcompact crossover has the BMW X2 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class in its crosshairs. After its scheduled debut at the 2018 Geneva auto show, the UX is expected to make its way to our shores before the end of the year.
Not much else is known about the little Lexus crossover, although based on this image we can see that it will offer both a hybrid powertrain and an F Sport body kit. Additionally, a short teaser video?embedded below?shows the UX with a modern dashboard design that includes a large infotainment screen and controls inspired by the Lexus LC coupe and LS sedan flagship.
Based on trademarks Toyota has filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, we expect Lexus to sell the subcompact crossover in UX200, UX250, and UX250h variants. We’d wager the entry-level UX200 will be motivated by Toyota’s new Dynamic Force 2.0-liter inline-four engine, which is also making its debut at the Geneva auto show and, according to Toyota, will produce 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. The pricier UX250 will likely come fitted with the 2.5-liter inline-four from the Toyota Camry, where the engine makes as much as 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the gasoline-electric UX250h is a likely candidate for the company’s hybrid-specific Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine.
